Gold Ore Dressing for Kids: A Fun Introduction!
What is Gold Ore Dressing?
Gold ore dressing (also called beneficiation) is the process of separating gold from rocks and dirt so we can use it to make shiny jewelry, coins, and more!
How Do We Get Gold from Rocks?
Here’s a simple way to understand how gold is separated from ore (rock with gold inside):
1. Crushing the Rock – Big machines crush the gold ore into tiny pieces (like gravel).
2. Grinding – The crushed rock is ground into a fine powder (like flour) to free the gold particles.
3. Washing & Separating – Since gold is heavy, we can use water to wash away lighter dirt (panning for gold!).
4. Using Chemicals or Gravity – Sometimes, special chemicals (like cyanide) help dissolve the gold, or machines spin the mixture to separate it.
5. Melting the Gold – Finally, the gold is melted into bars or nuggets!
